Installation Procedure For HDWPCOM816550 Under Windows 95

Installing WCSC's HDWPCOM816550 multiport card under Windows 95 is simple. This procedure will assume that the board is installed at address 100 hex, IRQ 5, and Interrupt Status Register 107. It will also be assumed that the board's first port will be COM3. Adjust the installation according to your hardware setup.

  1. Go to Add Hardware in the control panel.
  2. Do not let Windows 95 scan your machine.
  3. Select ports.
  4. Select standard port types & communications port.
  5. Click Next and Finish. Note that the address and IRQ of the newly added port is probably incorrect but you will adjust this in the device manager later.
  6. When asked to reboot, do not answer yes until you have added 8 ports.
  7. Goto Item 1 if you have not added 8 ports.
  8. Click on Systems in the control panel.
  9. Go down to the COM ports an double click on the first/next COM port.
  10. Click the resource tab and select Basic Configuration 8 in the "settings based on field".
  11. Modify the IRQ and address for the particular UART (e.g., Address=100-107, IRQ=5 for the first port) Address=108-10f, IRQ=5 for the second port) and so on
  12. Do not reboot until you do all eight sequentially.
