Card ConfigurationThe four port card has two modes of operation. These modes are named Compatible Mode and Enhanced Mode. In Compatible Mode the first two ports on the multiport card are fixed to the address of COM1 and COM2 respectively (Address 3f8, IRQ 4 and Address 2f8, IRQ 3 respectively). The other two ports share a third IRQ with the base address and IRQ selected by the switch block on the board. In Enhanced Mode all ports share the same IRQ. The base address and IRQ is selected by the switch block on the board. WCSC develops and sells all the necessary libraries and DLLs to support this multiport card under the above mentioned operating systems. Contact WCSC at +1 (800) 966-4832 or +1 (281) 498-4832 for additional information, or visit our web site at http://www.wcscnet.com. Refer to the figures for location of switches/jumpers.
In compatible mode, the address and IRQ of the first two ports are fixed. The first ports address is the standard COM1 (address 3f8, IRQ4). The second ports address is the standard COM2 (address 2f8, IRQ3). Ports three and four address is determined by SW1-8. Ports three and four IRQ is determine by SW-1 to SW-6.
Enhanced Mode In enhanced mode, all ports use the same IRQ. The switch settings below details configurations. Note that the Status Register is used under Windows NT to determine which port generated an interrupt.
