Introduction
We continue to expand our product line as well as enhance the stalwarts
we’ve had over the years. We continue to experiment with the Windows CE
(Pocket PC) platform as it pertains to serial communication and hope to
release a new product in the first quarter of 2003. We will keep you
informed.
We continue to offer customizations on our
COMM-DRV/NT,
COMM-DRV/Lib, and
COMM-DRV++ products.

SI-Scope & SI-Comm Electronic
Distribution
We are now distributing both
SI-Scope and
SI-COMM in electronic form
as well. I am sure our international customers will welcome this as they can
forego delays in shipping, customs, and high shipping costs.
The SI-Scope online documentation provide all the
documentation necessary to build the cable yourself. To purchase either
product electronically for immediate download, simply click on
on the
particular product's page.

MTask & Comm-Log Re-release
In the early nineties, WCSC released the last
versions of the products MTASK
and Comm-Log. Upon
analyzing our website's logs , we found that there were hundreds of monthly
queries for these products specifically and anecdotally for products of this
type. As we mentioned in previous newsletters, MSDOS still has a stronghold
in many embedded systems, and many other applications. In that light, we
decided to re-release these products both electronically (complete online
manuals) and/or with hardcopy manuals.
To purchase either product electronically for immediate
download, simply click on
on the
particular product's page. Alternatively, you may use our standard shopping
cart to purchase with a hardcopy manual.
Both products are offered at $29.95 and include their
respective previously unreleased source code. The sources for MTASK
provide a good exercise in understanding multitasking and steps needed to
make MSDOS preemptively multitaskable. The sources for COMM-LOG
provide a good exercise in understanding a simple script interpreter.
No support is provided for these products, however full
documentation and pertinent source code is included. |

Tip Of The Month
Some COMM-DRV/Lib functions have the ability to block to
wait for some event (presence of data, space in buffers, wait for ring).
These functions include GetPacket(), Dial(), ModemConnect(), etc.
If one needs to close the port or abort the above mentioned
functions before they complete, it is necessary to have these functions
abort. The basic solution to this problem is to install a callback function
with CdrvSetTimeoutFunction() and have the callback function force an
immediate timeout.
We created a very simple MFC application to illustrate one
method for accomplishing the abortion. Download
ForcedAbort.ZIP
to view the example.
